Vacancy at the FIAF Secretariat
Editorial Assistant

The International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF) is seeking an Editorial Assistant to reinforce the team of its Secretariat based in Brussels. S/he works under the supervision of, and in close collaboration with, FIAF’s Senior Administrator, as well as with the Editor of FIAF’s Periodicals Indexing Project (P.I.P.). The Editorial Assistant, being a fully fluent English speaker with excellent understanding of French, will be working full-time at the FIAF Secretariat in Brussels, although some remote work may be possible. This position is initially offered for a period of one year, with the possibility of leading to a permanent contract.
Tasks and duties
- Editorial assistance (copyediting, proofreading) in the production of the Federation’s publications, incl. the Journal of Film Preservation, the FIAF Bulletin Online;
- Writing the minutes of Executive Committee meetings and General Assemblies, and other meetings as required
- Assisting the Senior Administrator in the preparation of reports and correspondence with FIAF affiliates, Supporters, and other contacts
- Indexing of various French-language journals from scratch for FIAF’s Periodicals Indexing Project (P.I.P.)
- Editing of indexing of French-language journals provided by P.I.P. contributors, incl. possible translation of abstracts delivered in French
- Assisting the P.I.P. Editor in various tasks, incl. updating of P.I.P. indexing guidelines and procedures
- Responding to email requests received by the Secretariat
- Adding and updating content to the FIAF website and FIAF’s social networks.
- Performing other administrative for the FIAF Secretariat as required
Qualifications and Skills
Essential
- University degree or equivalent work experience
- Good computer skills (esp. Microsoft Office software suite)
- Fully fluent English speaker, including a proven record of excellent writing skills in this language
- Advanced-level knowledge of the French language, both oral and written
- Demonstrable copyediting and proofreading skills in English
- A good eye for detail
- The ability to work to deadlines under pressure
- The ability to work in a team
- Time management and the ability to multitask
Desirable
- Some interest in, and knowledge of, film history, the archiving field and FIAF’s activities
- Previous publishing and/or other editorial work experience, including internships, is an asset
