This conference is dedicated to gather international scholars in the field of musicology, film studies and related disciplines to promote the discourse on the history, the theory and the practice of silent film music and sound, with special regard to national and regional idiosyncrasies and commonalities in the wide spectrum of sonic methods and performative manifestations inherent in silent film exhibition practices.

Visual material sourced from three international archives is transformed into a new work, The Gardens, exhibited in London 3-14 June 2012.

The board of The Swedish Film Institute has appointed Jan-Erik Billinger as chairman of the Ingmar Bergman Foundation, replacing Astrid Söderbergh Widding, who left the post as of 31 December 2011.
